Pie lovers and fans cast their votes and decidedly handed the “People’s Choice” to Meredith Newmark of Silver Spring, MD for her Triple-Crust Cast-Iron Skillet Pie at the Makes-Me-Wanna SHOUT! Baking Challenge Semifinals at Martha’s Table (March 23). The official judges rounded off the 5 finalists with their four pie picks:

Raspberry Rhubarb PieMatt Gyory (Washington, DC)
Old-Fashioned Vinegar PieAnnalee Ash (Washington, DC)
Cheryl’s Nice and Naughty Sweet Potato PieCheryl Thompson (Washington, DC)

These pies and bakers advance to the FINAL FIVE “Happy Hour” round Tuesday, April 23 (5 – 7 pm) at Eatonville Restaurant –co-presenter for the baking challenge. Official Judges including James Beard Award winner Joan Nathan, Girl Meets Food founder/editor Mary Kong De-Vito, WUSA9’s J.C. Hayward, Eatonville owner Andy Shallal, and other food professionals will select the winning pie. The 2013 winner of the baking challenge will receive a $500 cash prize, a $250 gift card from King Arthur Flour, their winning pie featured on Eatonville’s menu, and a 3-hour consultation with the culinary think tank operation: eatery to get a baking business started on the right foot. The 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive cash prizes and gift cards from King Arthur Flour; runners up will receive a special gift.
