The date has changed for our meetup with J.C. Hayward in the WUSA9 kitchen.  We’ll cover the table with the Makes-Me-Wanna SHOUT! Baking Challenge winning desserts — the 2011 Coconut Cake, and the 2012 Chocolate Trio Cake — to announce the 2013 pie challenge.  I’ll (Michon Boston) be making the announcement.  And may even bake a pie to carry with me.  Anything can happen in television (smile).   I created the Makes-Me-Wanna SHOUT! Baking Challenge out of a love for homemade desserts and the stories they inspire.  That’s why I’ve added the tag line “Making and Baking Memories.”  Food stories enhance the enjoyment and grow our food community.  And of course, the proof is in the taste.

Thinking about entering the 2013 baking challenge? You don’t have to buy or bake anything to enter. Submit a recipe and the pie’s story. Cobblers, tarts, single crust, double crusts are all good. Just make sure the recipe has a minimum of 1 cup of flour. If you’ve entered the baking challenge in 2011 and 2012 and didn’t win, you can enter again.

This year we’ll select 12 semifinalists to bake off for the March 23 judging at Martha’s Table. Our official judges will select 4 finalists; and the public will decide who will be the “People’s Choice” in the Final Five on April 23 at Eatonville Restaurant where our star judges will select the winner. That’s it! Entries are due February 4, 2013.

I’m setting up a conference call for January 23 at 1 PM to answer questions about the contest.  More information will be posted this week.

In the meantime, tune in to WUSA9 on January 22nd.

Happy Baking!
